The Pubs

By muling over the current Otley run website, I have looked into a number of pubs that can be found along the stretch. To really get a feeling for the sort of atmosphere the run creates this will help me establish a visual identity.

Starting with....

Woodies Ale House

Here we are, number 1 of many to come! The Otley Run starts here…
There are booths for seating areas and a pool table as you get inside. A mixed crowd of both locals and young revellers in fancy dress attire. Head out to the back once you’ve gathered your pint for a bigger area with a large screen and dart board. There’s also a beer garden out the back if you’re lucky enough to go crawlin’ on a sunny day.

The three Horseshoes

This pub has gone under a transition from a traditional ale house to more of a student friendly contempory layout, accounting for everyone with its vibrant colours inside as well as wooden panelling. Big on rugby here. Apparantly they do big portions of food too, but you shouldn’t be eating anyway, only cheaters eat.
Remember not to get ahead of yourself, this is only pub 2, slow down all you eager beavers!

The New inn

The final pub of the far Headingley trio – make sure you hit the loo before moving onto Taps because it’s a little walk away.
Formerly known as O’Hagan’s New Inn with an Irish theme, it boasts a pool table and dart board like Woodies, and has seating outside front and back if you need a breath of fresh air (or not so fresh piggy.)

The Headingly Taps

This used to be a local water pumping station, however nowadays something much more pleasant flows through its pipes! A very large pub with multiple screens playing all the current sports. A much more student vibe in here, with a simple format of decor and cheapish drinks.
Doesn’t have a beer garden as such, but they allow you to sip on your delightful beverage in the car park.

The Sky Rack

Hyde Park Social
Don't be deceived by the outside, this place is like Doctor Who’s telephone box, bigger than you think inside! A nice layout with plenty of seating, pool tables and an outside area too. Has quite a few drinks offers on most of the time. Quite a vibrant student joint so check it out.

So you made it from Headingley to Hyde Park after quite a few drinks, nice one. Take a breather and get one in – maybe something with a bit of kick to it because you’ve got to cross the park to reach the next pub. This place has a few pool tables and has a nice buzz to it, with plenty of seating for you larger crowds. Uh oh nearly onto double figures…

The Library

So here we are, the other side of Hyde Park at the first place to wet your whistle. The Library is under the same management as The Dry Dock (Scream Pubs.) – So you can expect good value for money on your choice of beverage over some of the Bars back in Heddo’. It has a couple of pool tables,  jukebox, with a fair range of indie/rock tunes & table footy.

This quaint, traditional pub has a more ‘local vibe’ with the punters not normally being so studenty. But don’t be alarmed it’s not that expensive. It’s a cosy place with a nice feel to it, however if there’s a large group of you split up between here and Packhorse to avoid crowding it out!

The Dry Dock

Ahoy Sailor! Hopefully you haven’t contracted scurvy from abusing your body with alcohol consumption. But nip in here for a cheeky bevvie because it’s a classic venue. The Library’s partner in crime, with good value for money on food too. There’s a nice outdoor bit upstairs for those summer nights. – however may refuse entry to people in fancy dress.
